Do I need a teaching background?
No. The material was written to be digestible for parents and guardians who are not in the special education field. Gary walks you through everything at a calm pace.
Does my child take the course too?
You take the training. Your child works through the nine child-level gamified exercise files with you, using the four-layer teaching method from Module 1.
How long does it take?
It is self-paced. About an hour a day gets most parents proficient in around a week. Nothing expires and nothing is timed.
What if I fail a module check?
You cannot fail it permanently — attempts are unlimited and untimed. Reaching 80% simply unlocks the next module.
Which texts does the method work on?
Informational text of any difficulty — history, science, social studies and similar. It is not designed for analysing themes, characters, motives or inferences.
What ages is it for?
The method has been used with students aged 8 to 18, including children with specific learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, autism, processing deficits and English language learners.

What is CompreHelp?
CompreHelp is a method to improve reading comprehension. It was created around 2007 by Anastasia Gohari, a veteran Educational Therapist and Education Specialist.

How does CompreHelp work?
CompreHelp works by teaching the user a specific sequential approach to informational text in order to extract meaning and relevant information and to answer comprehension questions with high degree of accuracy without having to read the entire text.

No. The method teaches a specific sequential approach to informational text so the student can extract meaning and relevant information and answer comprehension questions with a high degree of accuracy without having to read the entire text.

Is the method research-based?
It is a research-based method, drawing on the Orton-Gillingham multisensory reading approach, Stephen Krashen’s Theory of Second Language Acquisition and the Behavioral Science concept of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis).

Anastasia Gohari, who holds a Master of Science degree in Special Education and dual California credentials as an Education Specialist in mild/moderate and moderate/severe disabilities, and has been teaching students with exceptionalities since 2002.

Do I need prior training?
You do not need to have any specific prior training or academic knowledge. The course is designed to be easily mastered by any motivated adult with a basic middle school reading comprehension level.

What is the Parent/Guardian Training Course about?
It is about mastering the sequence and steps needed to implement and teach the CompreHelp method with a high degree of success to your child. The format is adapted to the independent learning level of adults without a specialized educational background.

An erasable highlighter and a reading helper if your reader works from a hard copy — or on-screen highlighting if you work digitally.
